Project Summary
Through traditional sport, populations are keeping alive their identity and are contributing at enriching the European cultural heritage. But reducing the amount of practicing sport by people (according to the 2018 Eurobarometer) means also a low participation in practicing traditional sports. Many of these activities are related to cultural and traditional holidays, which are also threatened by the modern approach of living of the 21st Century. Decreasing the participation related to traditional sports doesn’t have only negative health outcomes, but also cultural ones, most of these traditional sports being threatened to dissappear if they will stop being practiced especially by the young generation. The project “PLAY”, which stands for “Play, Learn and be an Active Youth” is aiming to promote traditional sport games from 3 different geographical and cultural regions, highlighting sport as a tool for personal development of teenagers, as well as a valuable instrument for cultural heritage and social inclusion. The objectives of the project are:Developing a positive attitude of teenagers engaged in the project towards traditional sport and games as a tool for healthy life style, spending their leisure time in a fun and active attitude through the local sport activities organized withing the projectPromoting traditional sport and games activities as a tool for supporting good practices and non competitive sense, as well as a cultural heritage and exchange in the participating countriesIncreasing the knowledge and skills of 40 sport teachers and coaches from the participating countries on traditional sport and games through a training session in which they will be presented TSGs from all 5 countries present in the consortiumCreating the basis of a network of organizations prone to increase physical activity, especially among young, with a focus on promoting traditional sport and games for a healthy life-style and a non-competitive behavior.
